I think it’s true, and often of me I would say. But what is even worse than being counted a fool (fools can still know Christ by God’s grace and go to heaven) is the sin of making words meaningless and even burdensome. Why? because Christ is a word, the Word of God. He was the word that came with grace and truth, effective for our salvation, and true to everything he promised. If even our speaking out reflects Christ in measure, then how horrible it is when we make words meaningless and burdensome. He is not meaningless, He is not burdensome.
I don’t think we become better stewards of words by never using them. We ought to use them, indeed we must use them. Yet, may God give us grace to understand the glory, the fall and the redemption of words, so that we may honor Christ. When I think about his, Paul’s words in Ephesians about the word that builds up makes sense in a deeper way.
But, to answer the question…that I might partake in the joy of communicating, namely, those truths that are profitable for eternal life. To God be the Glory
